Description:
Juglans Nigra or Black Walnut is commonly grown for the delicious nuts and as a shade tree. This large deciduous tree has a long trunk, and due to the absence of lower branches, tends to have a dome-shaped crown. The nuts mature in autumn and the wood of this tree is also highly valued for woodwork (the bark forms fissured diamond patterns). The young trees start producing nuts when they are 4-6 years old.
